Hello .
I am very stressed out. My 1 year old girl is only weight 6 kg. She was born full term and was 2.5 kg at birth.
She is exclusively on breastfeed. From starting she is not gaining weight much. After googling and all research and seeing the children same as her age I am very worried about her health.
Although I have started solid food when she was 6 months. And also she is very active. Plus started walking and having two teeth.
I am very worried agouti grey. Everyone is saying ' she is so small' and ' looks like 6 months old' etc.
Please help me. What should I do? I changed three ped . All three are saying as long as she is active there is no problem. But still I can't help myself stressing out. Because she looks too small. Should I go for any tests? It could be any underlying decease? Please help me out. Waiting for your answers and reassurances.

My DS was 4.4kg at birth (so had a head start on yours!) but gained the same amount of weight your daughter has by the time he was 11 months - so again, very slow and for him nowhere near doubling his birth weight.

I'm sure he'd have gained weight the same speed even if he'd come out small.

Extremely active baby, no healthcare person was ever concerned about him. Apart from at the start, the Health Visitors referred us to the doctors because of dropping loads of centiles (started on 98th and settled on the 10th now!).

If you are concerned though, you can get another opinion.

@mom16520 I completely understand where you are coming from and how you are feeling my 1 year old is the same he is tiny and has been referred to Peads dietician all sorts. It worried me sick initially, I spent all my time trying to shove food into him, started early weaning etc but he's not a keen eater, never has been and refuses anything other than breast milk so I've come to the conclusion there is not much I can do and he is very active / walking so there can't be anything majorly wrong with him. I think they are more concerned if the child is eating loads but still not gaining weight. Of course always check with a healthcare professional if you are worried but if she seems healthy and happy - she's just small like mine Bear

@mom16520 can you give us an idea of what she eats in a day and how often you're feeding her?

I am giving her all thing which we eat . She eats everything according to her appetite. I don't force feed her. But also she is not very good eater. Trying to give her 2 meals , 3 snacks . Including fruits, veggies and dairy too. But still no increase in weight. Don't know what to do.

In day 3 to 4 times and at night 2 to 3 times. She still wakes up for breastfeeding

I would cut the night feeds, she may not be eating much during the day because she's getting calories at night.

I'd try some gentle night weaning techniques.

Once you've cut out the night feeds. Give it a week and stop the first feed in the morning. This should encourage her to eat breakfast.

Is she having a multivitamin each day? I'm not sure where you're based but in the UK the NHS recommend daily vitamins for children under 5.

Has the Paediatrician checked her iron and vitamin levels? Is she deficient in anything?

I really feel the need to reply to this to tell you that unless they medically find anything untoward (which is very unlikely) then please don't worry I put it down to genetics I spent my sons first year stressed sick about his weight, he was also breastfed. As soon as that stopped he started putting on weight. Its all fine 😊
