4 year old DS doesn't listen

Just reaching out to the community and making sure I am not the only one going through this frustration!

DS who's nearly 4 just doesn't listen.....I'd be sitting next to him saying his name multiple times and changing the way I say his name and he still doesn't respond or even look at us. He does this in nursery as well and they seem to struggle with his lack of taking in information. A good example of this from nursery would be that he was flogging his water bottle around and the staff would tell him it's dangerous, you might hurt someone etc but he doesn't respond and continues to do it. Surprise surprise he hurts someone.

We don't get that type of behaviour at home but at home he really doesn't responds unless you really shout but we hate raising our voices.....

We tried techniques on asking him to repeat back what we just said and he just says he doesn't know. Or we rephrase what we say to see if the way we explain things doesn't aide him take in the information.

Just a rant really and already feeling better 😅 But if anyone has had a breakthrough please let me know! Thanks

Has he had a hearing test since his newborn one @OnlyBoobsandBabies?

At least hearing has been ruled out. How does he score on this SLT progress checker?

He's hitting the HV miles stones and SPL I would say he's above average. I'm confident he can actually hear us but he's so engrossed in what he is doing he can't seem to concentrate. We've tested this before by saying his favourite treats like jammy dodgers and he turns his soon responds.

Maybe I just have a stubborn child but I'm worried he will struggle in full time school if he continues with this.

Did the progress checker I posted say he was on track then? Wink
