When you were a child, did you tell stories to yourself before going to sleep?

well i was alone a lot as a child, probably am a sociable introvert, used to my own company.

twinsetandpearls I would hate my DC to feel like i did too. But my Dad must of floated up the stairs because we didn't ever hear him. Just saw the door open and covers pulled off and whack. (Me 1st, i was closest to the door!)

My dd (19 months) does this is in the morning and I think it is really sweet! She usually wakes between 6 30 and 7, but lies in her cot and does 'stories' with her stuffed toys for up to 45 minutes! We can hear bits and pieces (MY pooh bear....NO, NO!...oh dear...very very hot). The mind boggles.....

Well I would say ds is most definitely an extrovert. He likes company A LOT but he tells himself stories and I often hear him doing that at night. He does prefer us to tell him the stories though (not book reading - that is different apparently!)

I think he is probably an extrovert forced to live in his inner world a bit as he doesn't have siblings - Not a bad thing IMO

Yes, I did and still do. When I'm alone, walking to the bus stop etc, I find myself with a mini drama playing in my head.

I do write a lot, its the only thing which helps my mind calm down, I find it difficult to "switch off"

I used to do this, still do in fact. My girls do this too, it's to help them have nice dreams.

I always did this.

My earliest memory of the stories involved
my infant school so it clearly started
early.

There were a definite series of heroines
who each lasted for several years.

I only stopped recently. I am so tired
at night I fall asleep before I can
get into the story. Still sometimes tell
myself stories in the early hours if I
can't sleep.

silverbirch · 27/02/2008 14:28

...and they were always secret too. I would have never told anyone. It was my secret world
(although I guess a few plot lines did make there way in to creative writing at junior school).

My two tell eaxh other stories as they fall asleep all about their'adventures'! Its so funny I've left the video camera in there to catch it.. maybe if he wont tell you he'll say them out loud to a tape so he can play them again in the morning!

My favourite story from my dd went like this:

'Once upon a time there was a stone who lived in a tree, and there was an old wife who lived in a tree.
There, that was a lovely story, wasn't it?'

choccypig · 27/02/2008 14:34

My DS shouts tonelessly sings.

dontwanttogetoutofbed · 27/02/2008 14:40
