Twirly hand

Hi

My Son is 11 months old born four weeks early.
For the last six weeks he has been twirling his right hand, and giving it lots of attention really looking at it. It almost looks like he is conducting an orchestra. He puts his hands in a fist and then inspects his thumb.

He does this quite a lot throughout the day.

I'm concerned purely because when he had his 10 month health visitor check she commented on it and said let's keep an eye on that.

He gives great eye contact, responds to his name and crawls etc.

She said she was concerned he was only saying Da Da and not three words.

He is a clingy boy and isn't very adventurous at play group he is happy to sit and watch others, the health visitor said he should also be banging toys together but he isn't, he will play with his toys at home, he likes putting lids and flaps down and turning cogs on his walker and loves nursery rhymes. He eats well although isn't keen on a lot of veggies, whereas my daughter loves all foods.

He is my second child and I find the health visitor service can be very stressful, it's set my mind off down the route of autism.

Just wondered if anyone else's child has done the same with one hand.

When I've researched it tends to be two hands flapping etc.

Really appreciate you taking the time to read this.

Please don't get stressed by the HV, although I know that's easier said than done.

It's really good that she's keeping an eye on him and it could turn out to be nothing. If it does turn out that he needs an assessment or some additional support, at least you'll be in the system nice and early.

We had the opposite experience, where we were begging for help but kept being told everything was ok.

I'd look on the HV keeping an eye on him for not as really good, maybe ask her fir a referral to Portage and a hearing test Flowers
