questions about sleepsuits/pyjamas/sleeping bags/duvets etc...

I'm not sure if this is the right area to post my questions, but here goes!!

Dd is 15 months old and thus far has been wearing poppered vests and sleepsuits and a 'gro-bag' equivalent (DreamBag). A thread a while ago got me thinking that perhaps I don't have to put myself through the nightly trauma of trying to do up the poppers, and that we could switch to pyjamas. My questions are:

  1. Do you put anything on lo's feet when they wear pyjamas?
  1. How often do you wash pyjamas? Reason I ask (prob. sounds daft question) but with sleepsuits we have put a fresh one on every night since babyhood - never really questioned it, but seems a bit excessive for pyjamas - or do I need to get a few more pairs?
  1. When Summer comes I was thinking about using a duvet for dd rather than a sleeping bag - we have a cotbed- do you buy 'normal single bed' sized duvets, or special cotbed ones, and if so where is the best place to get them?

Thanks - sorry if questions sound daft - haven't had to think about baby sleepwear for 15 months...

hello

I would prob put socks on feet with pyjamas in cold weather, otherwise not bother.

Wouldnt change every day unless she gets her breakfast down them! Probably change couple of times a week if they stay clean enough. Id probably buy 3 or 4 pairs maybe.

Dont know about cot bed stuff as i never had one!

tinytotmummy · 25/02/2008 12:00

My dd2 is 4m and she is in PJ's, as she is soo long, sleepsuits cramp her legs and feet.

I sometimes put socks on, depending on how cold it is. Usually feet are warm and toasty in a grobag without.

I might be slovenly, but I only wash when they need washing, ie, have poo, sick, too wet from drool to use again. I have six pairs, but prob only use four.

You can buy cotbed duvets and pilows from mothercare and john lewis. I bought my dd1's duvet covers from GLTC, expensive, but lovely.

We're just going through the same transition phase.

Pajamas with vest and socks if its very very cold, otherwise just pjs.

I like to wash them every day if I can, but sometimes get caught short and will use the top or the bottom from the night before, but only if its not got breakfast on it etc.

We are using a blanket for naps and the sleepbag for overnight - in an effort to acclimatise him to blankets/ duvets and the concept of pulling them over himself.

i think you can get child sized duvets. I'd try John Lewis, or kiddicare or one of those oneline sites

dd has worn pj's for a while now (2.8) she doesn't like wearing socks but has a vest in the winter. We wash pjs every 2-4 days depending on breakfast etc. She has shortie pjs and nightshirts for the summer when its warm. She was in grobags until she went into a bed when she turned 2 and went straight to a single standard duvet. I used summer grobags when it was warm.

this is great - thank you! It is such a simple thing but has had my head spinning! I'll try her without socks and I'm sure she'll be fine. Will see whether she gets covered in breakfast (probably!) but am hoping not to wash pj's daily, and will look out some of those child sized duvets. Thanks everyone - MN is so great for these situations when you you don't know what to do. Its not like you can ask your HV about bedding and socks really!

Just to add - Vertbaudet excellent for bedding. Their cotbed duvet much cheaper than Mothercare, John Lewis etc. We also bought their two tone duvet covers / pillowcases for DD. Look lovely but can look a bit creased and crumply unless removed from drier and smoothed carefully (notice ironing not a consideration!)Would agree on PJ changing 2 / 3 times a week unless v grubby looking. My DD must be a sensitive soul - likes her vest and socks too all year round!

I am a major fan of gro-bags and kept my ds in his until I took the side off his cot (at 3) and would have stuck with them longer if I hadn't been concerned about him having to "maggot" around in them! I would definitely can the baby grows and don't worry about feet - they don't need socks.
was amused by your washing thing - for some reason I washed my older son's pjs after every wearing out of some odd habit hang-over from babygros for ages, only realising what I was doing and dropping to twice or thrice a week when he was five!

readytopop · 26/02/2008 01:14

just to add I wouldn't worry about the size of duvet, ds had the little tikes car bed and a full size duvet because grandma gave hima thomas duvet for his birthday. a friend with a cotbed also went straight to a full size duvet.

As to what to wear with pjs, it depends on your child. ds has always been quite happy in his cool room in just pj's and duvet, dd prefers to be snug, and likes her blankie as well as her duvet. bear in mind vests are handy if lo is creative and likes removing his/her nappy...

I also agree with the others on the frequency of washing pjs, wait until they need it. No point in creating extra washing is there...

Pinchypants · 26/02/2008 10:16

PJs rock, they are sooo much easier than sleepsuits and poppers. We've got a whole load of cheapies from Primark supplemented with one or two Gap posh ones. No need for socks in a grobag. I wash my 19mo DD's pyjamas every couple of days/when they have breakfast down them. Planning on hanging on to grobags until we take the side off her cotbed, again cos don't want her to have to shuffle round.

PutThatInYourPipeandSmokeIt · 26/02/2008 21:09

what a fab thread! I live in a poncy part of london where it's proving rather difficult to get cheap and cheerful PJs. - is there a good on-line place?

readytopop · 26/02/2008 22:28

wait for nearly new sales, esp if you live in a more affluent area! There's a poncy village near me and their sales are fab! march and oct are the season for it round here, might be the same for you. I'd start with local NCT, pre-schools etc

CountTo10 · 26/02/2008 22:32

We did pj's from a similar age and he has a fresh pair every 2nd day unless they get dirty. He doesn't wear pants either now he's night trained. he only wears socks out of choice!! We 've always used a full size duvet even though he's been in a smaller bed and it's worked for us. Asda and Tesco do cheap pj's.
