Head twitching to the side

I recently took 2.5 month DD to the GP after noticing that she twitches her head to the side a few times whilst falling asleep. It doesn’t seem to bother her and seems to be as she is dropping off, she twitches several times over to her shoulder. The GP saw a video of this happening and said she didn’t think it was cause for concern but made a referral to a paediatrician just in case. I can’t find anything really seeming to refer clearly to this online. Has anyone else encountered it? It’s on off really worrying me that it could be infantile spasms for example.

If it is just while she is dropping off, it sounds like a reflex, I do this quite often!

I know it’s a bit early for teething but my DD used to twitch her head downwards and to the side just before a tooth would pop up. I was worried sick like you about IS at first but it correlated perfectly with her teeth coming in, also onset of an ear infection. So pain related here.

Having said this I did take her to the hospital to rule out infantile spasms. I was told by the ped neurologist that if the child is otherwise well (eating, sleeping fine) and developing as expected then they tend not to suspect this. I know sometimes just the head is involved but AFAIK IS usually involve the whole body. They did an EEG, it was fine as they were sure it would be, and she is now 2 and absolutely great.

Thank you so much for your reply. A big part of me feels sure she’s ok and then the other part of me feels terrified she’s not. From what I hear that second bit is unlikely go away at least for the next 18 years 😓
