Humping the bed

When DS was 7 months old he started humping. I can’t think of a better way to put it.

In his toddler years it continued, especially when he was playing. I brought it up with his paediatrician and she reassured me it was normal.

But he’s now nearly 7 (in August). And he still does it. He now only does it at bedtime. The whole house shakes and I‘m sure the neighbours can hear. I have to tell him to stop because of the noise.

Has anyone else experienced this? How to deal with it without shaming DS?

Yes my ds aged 4 has done this since out of nappies . He has a stuffed dog he takes with him to bed to do this . Normally we hear his bed rocking for about an hour after lights out ! We just leave him to it , it’s his body and helps him to unwind .

Lots of kids do it as it feels good and is soothing for them. As long as they learn it is a private thing to do then I don’t think it’s a worry.

At first we felt a bit uncomfortable , then we found it quite funny (we joked if he has that much stamina in bed when he’s older !) now it’s just become normal. Some nights he doesn’t do it as much as others . It’s a comfort thing and he’d probably do it anyway , at least he doesn’t have to feel shameful / secretive . Apart from washing doggy sometimes (!) which he gets grumpy about it as he can’t always take it to bed if it’s drying , it doesn’t bother us
