Toddler just doesn't eat?

Anyone have this problem with their little one where they just won't really eat at all?

I feel like I've tried everything with her. She's 2 in august and has CMPA and is currently under a quite rubbish dietician.

Trying to wean her onto to stuff with dairy in but she's not tolerating it at all and making her eating habits worse.

She's not picky, she just eats about 3-4 fork fulls of the meals we put out for her. She doesn't really snack. She'll have the odd bag of veggie straws or the odd banana a few times a week but most the time she just leaves everything on her plate or in her bowl?

I genuinely don't think it's because she doesn't like it she just doesn't want to eat

She's super constipated all the time and all the doctors did was offer laxatives which I don't want her to become reliant on so have tried pushing fibrous foods as much as poss

Anyone else have a child that's just not a big eater?

If she's not tolerating dairy and is constipated, is she totally DF now @northernmamax?

She is...

Dietician just keeps telling us to start her up again but she was just in horrific pain and even worse with her bowels

I'm DF due to CMPA. I know why they tell you to keep trying but I don't think that they understand fully just how utterly miserable and painful a reaction can be.

As for the food. It's perfectly normal for a DC with an allergy only to stick to a few safe foods.

How is she with her centiles? I know that you said she doesn't eat much but is she following her height and weight centiles?

If she’s super constipated, she won’t want to eat. You need to get that sorted and you’ll notice a different. My DD (3YO) has suffered with constipation since she was a baby but a daily dose of movicol has really helped her and improved her appetite.

My 2.5 is DF (I never got him tested but reacts to cows milk and cut it out at 6 weeks old - constipation, rash, agitation). Laxido is great when he struggles to go for a day or two, as are tummy massages. If he’s not pooped he will only pick at fruit or toast or biscuits. And once he’s gone he’ll scoff everything! He also still BF at night and has a cup or two of oat milk.

I don’t know if this is “good”advice or but I just let him eat whatever he feels like and he seems to be doing just fine. I don’t push him to eat more. I put out a small portion of whatever the meal is and he might eat it all, he might have one bite of broccoli. And then I’ll offer some fruit or yoghurt. Same goes for that, might be one bite might be all. I’ve done this since he was little and some days I’m like “I’m a terrible parent because today my child has only had a strawberry and a rich tea!” And other days he eats a full curry followed my fruit and yoghurt and then tea and biscuits.

I also don’t feed him dairy. Although depending on the severity of the allergy (I’m clearly
not a dietitian 😅) I may have done things differently, but his is mild and I reckon he’ll grow out of it (and if he doesn’t then he’s quite happy with the alternatives, it’s not going to ruin his life if never has a cheese sandwich) and no point in making him miserable.
