my son just (literally) turned one he is 2ft 9 inches tall, thats almost 84 cms. He is off the chart on the percentile thing the HV gives you. I see threads on small children and wondered if anyone else was on the opposite end of the spectrum like me, with a very very very tall lad!

dd2 is my tall one. at a year old she was well and truely off the charts for height and weight.

she is now in reception year at school and towers above her class friends. she is similar height to dd1+friends in year 3.

she wears clothes for 7-8year olds, has size 12 feet, and wears hats for 11yrs+ (all my girls have big heads).

she is 5.

DS1 was 2ft at birth and the others were all above 55 cms at birth.

I am 6ft 2 and I think boys are all meant to end up taller than Their mums so I'm looking forward to a house full of strapping teenagers with hooj feet!

My dh is 6ft 8inch. He always towered above his peers. His doc did run tests when he was younger to rule out any growth probs tho (all negative). He still growing on average 1/4 inch a year and he's 34yr old!

Our 3ds are big for their ages too. People look really shocked when they look in the pram and ask how old lo is, he's 17wks and almost outgrown 6-9month clothers.

My youngest DD is also tall but this is due to a genetic condition that causes over-growth although, luckily, neither her dad nor I are that tall so although she will be tall for our child she won't be a giant.

She is 6 now, wears 7-8 clothes and a size 2 shoe. She is nearly as tall as her 10 year old brother.

I always hate it that people comment on how tall she is and, like others have said, they always expected her to act the age she looked rather than her actual age. The looks we have had in the past at her (typical child) behaviour where she was say 2, looked 4 but acted 2.

Luckily she is not the tallest in her class and is not head and shoulders above the other children. There are about 4 girls in her class who are either the same height and one who is taller.

It doesn't help that her condition also causes global delayed development so her speech/fine/gross motor skills were always that bit behind although she is now able to do what most children her age can do.

dont worry - my boy has just turned one - is about 86 cms but only in the 12th weight percentile - long and lanky.........and he hasn't started walking at all, not even crawling - long limbs are hard to control for the little fella !!
