Babbling

I think this is just me being a very anxious mum with a very PFB but I was wondering what counts as babbling?

DD (7mo) constantly makes noises as though she is singing with varying tones and vowel sounds but doesn't really seem to do any consonents. At the moment, I reckon she'll get there in her own time but have started to wonder whether I should be worried that she isn't really making consonent type sounds. Is this worth talking to the HV about or should I leave it for a few months and see what happens?

Sounds perfectly normal to me! She may then concentrate on a particular sound for a time, then stop, then start.....blowing raspberries for example!

leave it well alone.

She is fine.

If she's still only doing that at 2yo, then you can worry.

(I certainly didn't worry about the same tihng, oh no, not me )

I'd say you have a good 6 months before you need to even think about worrying, even then I wouldn't stress too much

Thank you very much. I thought it was probably okay but then made the fatal mistake of meeting up with people in my ante-natal class whose babies all have all their teeth, can walk, and recite poetry and whose mums looked at me rather pityingly. Next time I too will lie!

Thanks

My friend is a speech therapist for kids - they work out that normal is 1 word by 1, 2 words by 2.
This sounds very normal. My 13m ds says "da" to pretty much everything!
