Have you looked at the customer reviews on amazon?

littleweed · 10/12/2004 12:12

she has wriiten a book called 'The no cry sleep solution' whichif I remeber rightly is baout teaching your child new things to associate with going to sleep (rather than a boob or a bottle) and teaching them to settle themselves with a soft toy or similar. It was while ago I read it and a lot of it seemed to make sense at teh time. she certainyl doesn't advocate controlled crying on its own, i got a copy ordered from my local library so it only cost about £2. i'm sure someone else will remember more than me. i think when it comes to sleep you need to read veryhting then hopefully there will be something that you wiLl find works for you!

yay!

thanks littleweed. i was going to read gina ford but it doesnt appeal to me and the reviews on amazon sound promising.

Have a look \link{http://www.pantley.com/elizabeth/content/books.htm\here}

It gives an idea of what she's about without having to shell our for the books up front.

nailpolish · 10/12/2004 12:23

I think she's a big fan of co-sleeping? Don't know much about her really though.

highlander · 10/12/2004 18:49

I'm waiting on my copy from Amazon. It's recommended by my HV, who also recommended Harvey Karp's 'Happiest Baby on the Block' for my colicky DS.

I'll let you ko how I get on. I need it as DS is nearly sleeping through (1 top-up feed) but he can't seem to do anything other than scream himself to sleep when tired and he's grown out of all the Karp techniques.

sleepdeprived · 10/12/2004 19:18

She's fantastic! Very even-handed about cosleeping and other options. Her main thrust is she's very ANTI-controlled crying, and shows you gentle and loving alternatives. The other main contrast to GF is that she's very un-prescriptive - ie presents you with a smorgasbord of options from which to compile your own personal 'sleep plan'. She's a parent herself and very compassionate and non-judgemental. Any more info, let me know - I'm a fan! Just wish I'd read her BEFORE I read GF.

hercyulelog · 10/12/2004 19:29

Does anyone know what she advices if you are cosleeping and bf - how to stop night feeds?

jabberwocky · 10/12/2004 19:31

I've got her No-Cry Sleep Solution book and her Gentle Baby Care one as well. I really like them both. She did co-sleep with her kids, but has practical advice for those who don't. I highly recommend both books.

sleepdeprived · 10/12/2004 19:35

Various things, depending on age etc. I do recommend getting hold of a copy. B/f-ing more during the day is one thing; also 'Pantley's gentle removal plan', which is designed to diminish the sucking-to-sleep association. She has lots of ideas, actually, ranging from changing sleeping position to putting a soft toy between you and your baby, etc etc

hercyulelog · 10/12/2004 19:36

I think I'll invest in her book.

highlander · 10/12/2004 21:56

hunny, thanks for the link Smile

jabberwocky - how useful do you think the Gentle Baby Care would be for me as DS is now nearly 13 weeks? ie is it just for newborns?

I really like the look of her other parenting books as well, especially the hidden messages one. My parents only ever communicated by screaming at each other (and us) and I'm desperate not to turn into them!
