19 month old cries when I talk to anyone else

Hi everyone. I'm a little concerned about my toddler. I've noticed that he almost always starts crying whenever I talk to another adult whether it be his dad I'm talking to or a stranger. He wants my attention particularly during those times and even if I pick him up, he doesn't stop. He only stops when I've stopped talking to that person and give him my full attention.

I don't understand this behaviour and I can't seem to find anything on the net which makes me even more worried.

Has anyone else experienced this? What do you think it could be and any suggestions on how to approach it?

Many thanks in advance xx. I'm new to mumsnet as a poster so I hope I've posted in the best area xx

It's pretty much the same reaction my friends dog exhibits when I ignore him and start stroking the other dog. 😂 I can't believe there's nothing online about this. Lots of children are a bit clingy when young.

Hello and welcome to MN Wink

At a guess I'd say it was within the realms of normal. Do you have any other concerns or is it just this? Wink

Hi Siouxsie. Thank you for your response. No it's just that really and it only started since my newborn daughter came along in Feb. We give him lots of attention and alone play. He's absolutely fine when I'm holding and talking to his sister and he interacts fine with her so it's just adults which is the reason why I'm worried. I initially thought it was due to new baby at home but he adores her now so I hoped it would go. Do you think it's just another phase? He gets really distressed which seriously worries me cos I keep thinking what am I doing that's making him react that way.

Lol well if you put it like that I'm sure there's info but it's all so generic. He's always been sensitive but cos he acts so distraught even if I talk to his dad. I don't know if he just wants mummy attention if I'm not with my daughter. I dunno...
