5 year son and perfectionism - WWYD

My son is quite retinentive about if we say something and we don't follow up with it he will have a paddy. When it comes to drawing or writing if he makes an error he will lose it and destroy his work. School has introduced the invisible circle so adults cannot see the error etc but wondered if this type of perfectionism could be a sign of special needs that we need to look at. He used to put all his trains in a row but less so now - not much sign of OCD repeated behaviours just losing it with not getting things correct the first time....is this normal? Thanks.

I've read that some people with ADHD can have perfectionist tendencies but I've not heard of it with ASD.

I am just some random on the internet though, so don't take my word for it! Grin

Seems normal to me

It wouldn't surprise me if it became clear he probably has ASD when he gets to around secondary school age. Perfectionism is very common in ASD if you google it and lining up trains is classic. There may be lots of small signs that you just haven't realised are relevant because you put them down to his age or being an only child or the youngest etc. That's what happened with mine who was diagnosed just before secondary.

Has any one heard of ASPD?
