My 15 month-old baby does not like to walk...

Hello everyone!

I wanted to know your opinion about a phase that my son is going through and I don't know if it's normal or not.
My son is 15 and a half months old and took his first steps on April 5. However, I notice that he doesn't like to (or can't) walk very much. He takes about 5 or 7 steps on his own a day and sometimes more (around 20). I have always thought that babies as soon as they take their first steps would lose interest in staying on the 'floor' in order to explore this new activity. Has anyone experienced this? Apart from that, he is well on other levels and is very active, sociable, and smiling. Thanks in advance.

I think it's quite normal for them to realise that crawling might be quicker for now.

We did things like putting some small toys on the sofa that they could play with standing up.

Has he got a a little truck like this one that would encourage him to toddle around?

Thank you! I did not get it yet because I was told this could delay the process even more. Did it help in your case?

I know baby walkers can delay walking but they are ones like these ones.

I've never heard of a toddle truck causing problems.

Thank you!

Ah I'm glad I explained it ok. I'd get him a toddle truck, my DS absolutely loved his Wink

I think also think it's quite common for there to be a fair gap better 'first steps' and 'walks, rather than crawls'. For both my daughters, it was about six weeks between the two – that was when they learnt to stand themselves up without anything to pull up on, and for some reason that was it, they were off.

That sort of toddle truck is worth a try, but don't panic if he's not keen. Neither of mine liked it much for 'walking practice', although it's well-loved as a baby doll pram, shopping trolley, and general transporter (including of the children, the one we have is clearly well-made!) now that they can walk themselves.
