DD is 15 months old & until a few weeks back, could say, dog, cat, daddy ect.Recently she has stopped saying these words altogether, but 'chatters' away in her own little language constantly. She even talks in her sleep.

She still understands what words mean & will identify animals in books - if asked 'Where is the cow?,will point to it & make a mooing noise. She will fetch her beaker of milk/football/books if asked,so I know she understands. It just seems strange that she has stopped saying recognisable words.

She has suddenly zoomed ahead with her walking & has gone from cruising to walking unaided in the past 10 days or so & is never happier than stomping around.Could she be concentrating on walking rather than talking?I remember when she started crawling, she wasn't babbling & the HV got me all worried about that-then within days, she started babbling & I'd gotten all worked up for nothing.

Any advice?
Thanks

Not talking from experience as dd too young and didn't know ss at this age, but I wouldn't worry, I think she's just concentrating on other things.

I would say yes it is normal as all of my kids have done this.

My 2 yr old Ds used to be able to say thankyou and please and grandad but then went through a phase of not saying them although he still knew what we meant.

I think they just get stuck on concentrating on new things and new words.

My dd did this. At the time I assumed it was because she is bilingual, but maybe it wasn't.

I can't remember the exact ages, but by 18 months she started saying words again. They came and went though - she'd say something consistently for a few days and then stop. Then they all gradually came back and stayed.

Now she's 2.5 and a little chatterbox, and more or less normal for her age (given she's bilingual).

So don't worry. It must be a sign of intelligence Wink
