Hi everyone ftm mum here. My baby boy was born 8 lb 14 and the last time the health visitor came at 7 weeks he was 12 lb 2. I’ve been curious to know how much he weighs now but the drs apparently don’t do weigh so I tried to do it at home , albeit not 100 percent accurate I’m sure. But it’s saying 16 lb which in the red book would take him from the 75th percentile , which curve he was following to now like 99? I mentioned it to the health visitor on text and she has got me worried saying to mention it to the dr as rapid weight gain can indicate certain problems ? I text her hoping she’d reassure me not the opposite. I then tried to measure his height and that seems to have jumped to 99th too. He’s a very long boy and doesn’t at all appear ‘ chunky ‘ so to speak.

would you be going to the drs?

thanks in advance he’s ebf

If he's on the 99th centile for both I would absolutely not worry. My DN has always been on them for both and is beautifully in proportion.

Do the HVs offer drop-in clinics anymore or is that a thing of the past?

When I had mine you could take them along with their Red Book, get them weighed and measured and get it recorded in the Red Book.

Thank you for the reassurance. I always knew he was bigger for his age as everyone is surprised and say he looks 6 month not 4. But he really doesn’t seem to have any ‘ chub’ to him. That’s what I was hoping for but the health visitor didn’t offer to come out to weigh him and the nurse at the drs say she doesn’t offer that anymore.

the HV did say baby groups usually do them 🤷‍♀️

Exactly as SiouxsieSiouxStiletto says if he's on 99th for both I wouldn't worry at all. DS was at that age, he was very long and in proportion. He's 13 now and still exceptionally big for his age.

@Charlotteap your local family center should have one or two mornings a week that you can drop in to have your baby weighed with a health visitor. If you Google it, your nearest one should pop up.

Worth also keeping in mind that no baby grows in a linear fashion gaining the same weight every day. Sometimes they put on loads, sometimes only a very little - it definitely varies from week to week.
