Hi Guys,

first post I have two boys who I love to death but the older first son who is super active im sure everyone has seen it before but I have some concerns.

My oldest Son who is nearly 3 and half years however doesn't speak yet but does know when we ask him to eat, toilet etc but just doesnt say anything yet but does the old mumbling now and again.

He literally is jumping off tables the usual you would get with a really active child but before he used to share with his younger brother he is starting to snatch and is more naughty then he was before.

He used to be really shy around people but now especially yesterday he was super active and I had to keep an eye on him all the time as he has no sense of danger. It is really disheartening for me as my youngest Son who will sit and play with a Toy or watch TV but he doesn't seem interested and gets bored very quickly.

I have been recommended either taking him to a doctor or maybe a supplement but wanted to find out any issues first before doing anything like that.

Is there any advice you could give? he will start Nursery in September so I do have some concerns im sure all will be ok but would appreciate some advise.

Are you in the UK @Balor2023? If you are, I'd call the HV today. Can I ask who suggested talking him to the Doctors and what they said?

Not speaking at 3 is a concern and he at the very least needs her to refer him for a hearing test and some Speech and a language therapy.

I'd do this SLT Progress Checker before seeing your HV. They have a useful helpline if it says that he needs some support.

You'll also need to ask the HV to do the Ages & Stages Assessment for 36 months.

Please do not put this off. It sounds as though your DS1 has Speech Delay and it's much better to get some support before he starts Nursery.

Don't let the HV adopt the "wait and see approach" either. Your DS1 needs a hearing test and referring to SLT straightaway.

If the Ages & Stages throws up any concerns I'd insist on a referral to a Paediatrician too so that he can be assessed.

Good luck OP. It could all be something as simple as glue ear but you owe it to your DS1 to get things investigated and get him any support he may need Flowers

Yes I am in the UK we have already applied for Speech Therapy through our GP but apparently we are on the waiting list. as mentioned previously he is really active and I know all children are different but my young Son who will turn 2 soon is further in his development I feel which I find concerning in terms of speech but overall actions and listening my older son is obviously further along.

I have gone through the steps but wanted to know what the cost implications would be apparently he is on the waiting list currently.

Do you mean the costs for private SLT? I would speak to your HV first before paying for SLT.

Once she's done the Ages & Stages assessment, she may decide to get in touch with SLT and see if he can been seen any quicker.
