Hi, probably not the right forum to post this but can't find a more appropriate to post it in.

How do I clean cuddly toys that are 'surface washable' please?

damp cloth that has been well wrung out and wipe over the surface don't get them too damp

Flumberrysauce · 08/12/2004 10:39

Washing machine.

I put everything in. (even suits Shock)

everything survived so far. Just on 30 degree daily wash type programme.

NomDePlumPudding · 08/12/2004 10:41

I do the same, Flumberry, stick them in the machine on a 30 degree quickwash cycle and then pop them in the airing cupboard.

gothicsanta · 08/12/2004 10:43

be careful with the filling etc. we have had mishappened toys and those with piling to fur etc. after being in teh washing machine

SantaQuated · 08/12/2004 10:46

washer THEN tumble dryer here

if they don't survive then i bin it......but tbh think i've only had to get rid of one

if it was a precious toy i may think twice (but only briefly Grin)

NomDePlumPudding · 08/12/2004 10:47

Yes, not sure I'd put a particularly 'precious' cuddly in the machine, but all DD's others are perfectly fine for a bit of pilling.

snowmoon · 08/12/2004 10:51

Great! Glad I can put them in the washing machine. DS mouths everything and things can get a bit yucky Grin. Thanks!

I'd washing machine them too. Sometomes the fur can be alittle coarse afterwards but a good brush with the hairbrush usually does teh trick and brings them up nice and fluffy next time.

washing machine, airing cupboard then hairdryer for added fluffiness

WigWamBam · 08/12/2004 11:54

I find that if I tie them into a pillow case before they go into the washing machine, they don't pill or lose their shape. Or perhaps I've just been lucky!

DickWhittingtonsCat · 08/12/2004 11:55

Wow, Flumberrysauce - I could save a fortune if I stopped drycleaning business suits. Have you really put expensive woollen/ wool blend suits in the machine? What sort of detergent?

princessinapeartree · 08/12/2004 12:04

put them in pillowcase when washing as wigwam suggests, then put a couple of tennis balls or a clean plimsoll in the dryer with them, bashes them up a bit and makes the stuffing fluff up properly again rather than bunch together and get flat and sad.

do this with all down-filled things too (children's anoraks, washable duvets etc)

sponge · 08/12/2004 12:21

Dickwhittingtonscat, please don't put a suit in the washing machine unless you really don't care about it. The fabric may be OK if it's a blend but the shoulder pads, interfacing etc can't take it so you could end up with misshapen shoulders and a puckered front where the interfacing has bubbled.
Cheaper to dry clean than have to buy new suit!

hazlinh · 09/12/2004 03:10

er yes, i've washed suits before, and the shoulder pad ended up somewhere closer to the chest!!
