Disgusting talk in four year old boy

My DS1, aged four, has recently progressed from toilet talk to some really awful talk about body parts. I won't go into details. I probably sound very prudish. I had a brother close in age so I do realise that boys can be like this, but is four very early? Where do they get this stuff. He isn't allowed watch unsuitable tv. He does go to creche and his dad makes bottom jokes but it seems to be getting a bit far. Anyone else have this problem and how should I handle it.

Twig that reminds me of ds' 7th b'day recently - cue 28 children (mostly boys) singing the same rhyme while ds blew out his candles with a big grin on his face

Going by dh unfortunately they never grow out of it...

ZippiBabes · 13/02/2008 10:09

i don't think they do grow out of it

i am at college and one tutor manages to get the words back passage into a remarkable number of lessons

Poo poo head. Please someone tell me where this term comes from? I have never seen it in a book, heard it on tv nor in general adult conversation. My DSS is now 20 and he used to say poo poo head 18 years ago, so it is not a new term.

Poo poo head. - Enlighten me please?!

Surely, it's just a translation of 'shithead' for the benefit of the younger generation. I imagine that shithead is an old Anglo-Saxon term with a venerable history.

Ds' mate went through a stage where he managed to fit bums and willies into most sentences he uttered and I am quite sure there was no sinister reason.

LittleWonder · 13/02/2008 12:51

Ye olde shithead? D'you really think?

Northumberlandlass · 13/02/2008 13:00

Hi, I have a 4 DS and he regularly scratches his bum, then smells his fingers i can guarantee that he hasn't seen anyone else in our house do it - when I asked him why, he said he liked the smell. Urghhh. I always make him wash his hands !!! I think bum, boobs & willies are all quite interesting for him at the moment - his phrase of the week is "Mummy you have smelly boobs". I hope this is just a stage

lollipopmother · 13/02/2008 14:01

Oh God Northumberland, that is just gross, haha, but it does make you laugh!

As for poo-poo-head, my partner and I call eachother that, and we're 25/26!

indiemummy · 13/02/2008 14:11

PupandHat, if it's any consolation, my 4yo ds came home from school last week and said "who wants to touch my willy!" - we were a bit shocked and said, "why are you saying that? who says that?" and he said apparently a very naughty boy in his class says it. So he was just copying.

And, you know, I spent that whole evening crying, I just felt really sad that my lovely innocent ds was being corrupted just after starting school (he started reception in jan this yr), and i found the whole thing disgusting... but he hasn't said it since...

Please don't worry too much, I am sure it's just silly boy poo-poo-head stuff. BOYS! Ugh.

Ah, I remember dd at the dinner table sticking her fingers down her pants and then in her mouth and remarking thoughtfully 'it doesn't taste very nice, does it?'. I'll just pop upstairs and remind her of that shall I?

worley · 13/02/2008 15:10

pupandhat - sorry i had to laugh, it reminded me of my cousin (a boy) one xmas at a family get together said to my grandad "smell my finger" which of course grandad did, to which my cousin rolled about laughing saying "i just stuck it in bum"!!!

he has never been allowed to live it down, i think he was about 7 at the time!
