Sacral dimples are pretty common. Can you see the bottom of the dimple? If you can, then it's almost certainly nothing to worry about.

In a small number of cases, a sacral dimple can be a feature of spina bifida (usually in these cases you can't see a clear bottom to the dimple or what you can see doesn't look right), so it's reasonable to get your GP to check it out, but try not to worry as the likelihood is that everything will be fine. I know quite a few children who were born with sacral dimples and they're absolutely fine.

My eldest has Spina Bifida Occulta, as does my brother.. ie 'proper' little holes
My brother has played football all his life, runs 10k every day and loves the gym.His was picked up soon after birth.

My son was xrayed at 4 hours old as I spotted it the first time I changed his nappy and he was whisked away for tests... his sports are stunt skating and MMA martial arts. He was walking at 9.5 months and riding a 2 wheel bike at 3.

I think he had one infection as a baby, but was absolutely fine. I presume they both have their SBO holes but as both are adults I wouldn't want to look :)

Hope that reassures... both the dimples and SBO are pretty common and doesn't usually cause problems.

Hello! My 6 month old daughter has a sacral dimple, which she’s had since birth. I haven’t thought anything about it until a friend mentioned it looks pretty deep and I should get a GP to look at it. It wasn’t mentioned at her newborn examination or her 6 week check up! Worry has now set it and googling has took over! Has anyone else been in a similar situation?

I really really wouldn't be worrying about it! I'd probably get the gp to have a quick look next time you are there , but I wouldn't be hurrying or panicking. Presuming she's waving her little legs around with no issues there is unlikely to be a problem:)

Thanks! Google defo hasn’t helped my worrying! I’ll mention it to the GP when i’m next with her! :-)
