Toddler speech delay

Hey mums,
My son is 2 on the 5th April. He does not speak in full sentences yet, he has a few words and he understands everything you say to him.
Should I be worried? I wasn't until a friend of mine had her child's developmental check (they're the same age) and the nurse was concerned she's not speaking in full sentences.
It's kinda threw me and I feel awful that maybe I should of been more concerned prior?
I'm a first time mum, I wouldn't of had much interactions with babies etc before my son for reference.

I really don't think this is anything to worry about, I think it's 50 words and two words by together by two (though this is an average milestone so 50% of children won't necessarily be doing this). Sounds like he's perfectly on target. Full sentences is mad! (That said there's a speech delay thread on this board that a few people are trying to get going. Feel free to join it (honestly don't think you need to worry though)) x

@Unhappymumunhappytoddler thank you will have a nosy at it 😃 hopefully my own public health nurse won't be as concerned as my friends one, the guilt I felt when she told me that 🙈

I agree, I think about 50 words and putting 2 together at 2 is what they look for here – and if understanding is good but the words aren't quite coming, that may well sort itself in the next few months. In my area, they actually do a 27 month review instead of a 24 month one because apparently a lot of the 'just needed a little more time' late talkers will be taking off by then, so they can better focus on the ones that do need a little extra support.

Don't worry too much, just highlight it during his 2yr check. Our son o kt had a few single words even at 2yr 7m when our daughter was born, but he's 3.5 now and you would not know hems been delayed. He always understood everything, just didn't need to speak. We were referred for a speech assessment but for a private one for peace of mind and they both predicted he would be fine, as he is. He had 3 sessions if NHS speech therapy as they had a space and got new words from each sessions. He learned to really speak a lot shortly after our daughter was born (eg when she was born he still said Mumma, but he quickly changed to Mummy when she was quite little).

Thanks ladies! He seems to be speaking a bit more since I wrote this post which is reassuring!
