Recessed chin

Hi,
My LO has had a sucked in chin from birth. From what I've read it should hopefully pop out but it still hasn't and I'm getting more concerned. He's now 14 weeks and there seems to be no change from birth. He did have a tongue tie which was cut when he was a week and a half. I've attached a pic.
Has anyone elses baby had this and it sorted itself as they got bigger? Should we be doing any exercises?
Thanks

What's it like when he's awake and you prop him up?

Usedtobechilled · 17/03/2023 10:14

When he's awake it looks almost "normal" his chin is sucked in a wee bit but his lips meet at least

I think it will change as his teeth come in, it looks fairly normal for a sleeping baby if this age to me Wink

OK cool, thanks. There's just really not that much info on the good old internet with babies having this but then growing out of it. I wonder if I'm worrying about something that people don't normally worry about and that's why 🤷‍♀️

It could very much be that Wink

If you have a Dentist, I'd take him to your next check-up and get them to have a look at his teeth and jaw. It's never too early to get them in at the Dentist anyway Wink

My DS2 was really chinless a newborn.. it was the first thing I noticed as my other three all had normal chins. He looked very odd (also had a whopping great head and spindly limbs..he looked like an alien!)

At some point it improved.. I have no idea when, but by the time he was a toddler he looked pretty normal, and by the time he was a teen he had a nice strong jawline :) So he grew a chin at some point.. don't worry!

I know this was a while ago but just to say my boy had a very recessed chin- I really thought he was quite off looking in his early months- I’m not sure exactly when it changed but he’s 16 months now and the most gorgeous little boy with a perfectly normal chin!

Hi, just wondering if this corrected itself?
my new born has the same!
thanks

Yea, his chin looks absolutely normal now his teeth have started to come in and i feel silly for how much time and worry i gave it at the time. Honestly, after a while I stopped being worried about EVERYTHING and just thought what will be will be. I worried about his chin, his high palate, the fact one of his feet curved in more than the other, literally everything and then realised I can't do anything about it until he's older if it's even an issue when he's older. Turns out it all seems to be righting itself.

Aww that’s so good to know, glad it’s sorted itself! I’m exactly the same! I worry about every little thing and was the same with my first! And all the things I worried about first time are no longer issues!
I think worrying is part of the parent job description 😆

My 11 week old has a recessed chin and I wonder if this is why she struggles to latch? I didn't realise she was struggling until the health visitor had concerns over how slowly she's putting on weight. They've checked for tongue tie and said that's fine, noone has mentioned her jaw but wondered what other mums thoughts were? Her dad had this jaw when he was born and required a brace to fix it bit it's only her feeding that's my concern for now.
Steadily getting out of the worrying about every little thing phase...haha I think my partner would disagree lol

Yea I really believe the recessed chin plus his high palate etc potentially because I didn't produce a ton of milk caused our problems.
My wee one was the same with weight, just kept going down percentiles until I swapped to purely expressing so it is possible to go down that route if you're struggling with latching.
