Parents in law say my toddler is a "cry-baby"

Basically I need advice on whether this is a behaviour problem or just my parents in law and their rather strange and outdated views. They visited us recently for a few days. While the were with us, they spoke to my husband and said that our DS, who has just turned 2, is a cry baby and we need to toughen him up or he will get bullied at school. They don't talk to me about this kind of thing, so I didn't have the chance to ask for more detail! He can be pretty clingy but I have taken the view so far that being "tough" with him would be counter productive so I generally just offer comfort, cuddles etc, where i can. He does also cry when things don't go his way e.g. another child takes a toy he was playing with, but I had assumed that was normal toddler behaviour.

So please help, is this something I should be giving thought to, or do I ignore? Any tips if it is something I should be concerned about?

What an odd thing to say. Have you noticed a huge difference with him and other children his age when you go out with him to groups?
