Hello, please help/tell me if you've had similar experiences...
I have a 4 month old who has just had his 2nd set of jabs (DTaP/IVP/Hib/MenC) and is really unsettled.
He had the jabs on Wed and was fine until Sat..he has been a nighmare Sat and Sun...screaming for no reason, unsettled, pooing a lot more than normal, throwing up more, fussing (even more than he normally does) at the breast..
He has always been an unsettled baby, but HAD improved a lot in the week before his jabs..now it seems like we've gone backwards, is this normal?
I have read that reactions are expected in the 48 hrs after..but this is 4 days after.
Should I be worried/take him to the health visitor tomorrow??

It can be normal but keep a careful eye. If you get worried at all - especially if screaming becomes high pitched- then take him straight to A&E.
You can report suspected adverse reactions - although the site is down at the moment. If you type yellow card UK into google it should link. It is important that all reactions are noted. Well as many as possible.

I've just checked my book and 26% of babies vomit after the 5 in 1, 26% eat less, 24% have diarrhoea, 23% are less active, 39% cry more and 48% report irritability. So all the reactions sound normal. Just don't delay taking him in if they get worse.

Hopefully he'll be much better soon.

Thanks so much yurt1, his reactions do sound normal don't they, that has reassured me.
Just seems so odd to have such a delay in his reactions, he didn't have any reactions until 3 days after, does your book happen to mention that at all?
Thanks again, fabulous to get such a speedy and informed response.

No it doesn't give the days, but it doesn't sound outside the normal range.

Just keep offering the breast, and as I said seek medical advice if he gets worse. If diarrhoea continues I'd look at probiotics (although tbh breast milk is probably the best thing of all).

Remember if he takes a while to get over them you can delay the next lot (or was that his last?)

There are quite a few bugs going round so it may just be coincidence.

Thanks, yes, will keep a close eye on him, maybe take him in to see the health visitor tomw just in case.
And yes, was thinking about delaying the next lot (he has had 1st and 2nd later than advised anyway), wait until 6 months maybe and hope his system is a bit stronger by then. Poor lamb!

HV trip sounds a good idea. And if you want to wait until 6 months do, (will be summerish by then so fewer bugs).

Just to say my DS reacted in a very similar way - a couple of days after the jabs he seemed fine and then we had a week of him being terribly unsettled. He had a lot more poo and spitting up than normal, and would scream when I tried to get him latched on. It's the only time we got him to use a dummy. DH would get him to suck it and then put him on my lap and we'd do a quick change of dummy for nipple to get him latched on. I though it was maybe because the nurse got me to feed him while she did the jabs, so the next lot I made DH hold him and sure enough he was better that time - but it might just have been because he was a bit older. Hope he gets better soon. I found it a big relief when the jabs were all over and I could look forward to 8 months or so without the reactions.

Ah thanks Snippety, really relieved to hear that my babe isn't the only one that this has happened to, other bad reactions I've heard mums talk about seem to happen straight after the jabs. & the health visitor told me today that his symptoms were nothing to do with the jabs..hummm...
Fingers crossed he'll come out the other side soon.
