How long from cruising to walking?

DS isn't standing unaided yet but is a confident puller-upper and cruiser. No hurry on my part, but people keep saying 'Oh, he'll be walking by Xmas!'. How long did your little cruiser take before his first steps?

ds took about 4 months from cruising (9/10 months) until he walked unaided along the hallway, although took wobbly steps on his own after less than 2 months. dd liked to be supported upright from 5 months-ish, crawled at 8 months, stood at 9/10 months and walked by a year. She toddled around at Toysrus at 13 months although she looked about 6 months younger !!

DS3(14 months) has been cruising around the sofa, walls etc for ages.

Yesterday lunchtime he stood for a few seconds unaided forthe first time. By dinner time he was walking across the roomShockShockShock

TBH I am utterly amazed that he's gone from just standing to walking in a few hours but mostly I'm gutted as it means there are no babies in the house anymore. My baby is a toddler.

LIZS · 07/12/2004 20:46

btw ds stood himself up from sitting and walked on the same day !

hi
ds was crawling at 6mths crusing 7.5mths and walking at 8.5mths...now hes a terror....
i had crawlers from clarkes and cruisers and to be honest i wouldnt recommend them as the cruisers are no different to normal shoes...what i do tend to do is be cheeky and get Ds shoes measuerd at clarkes and say his clarkes r at home but was just checking they still fit....lol

mishiclaus · 07/12/2004 22:41

just to say ds is now 13mths and can run like a whippet..although sometimes gets a little over excied and trips....but i must admit he does look a little older as he is tall for his age and thin which i think helped with walking...he is also very inqusitive so into everything

marysavannah · 08/12/2004 07:35

hi. im new here but mines been crawling from 10months, crusing from 11.5 shes now just over a yaer- any ideas for walking-= and is there anything i do to help her stand unaided and walk etc?

Smile

Petesmum · 08/12/2004 08:32

Started crawling at 11.5months (lazy so & so!) cruising at 12months, walking by 13.5months and running by 15months! Got there in the end Grin Afraid I'm a Clarks shoes devotee even if I do seem to spend a small fortune there. DS found his feet once we put him in cruisers - think the non slip soles gave him the grip he needed to have more confidence (especially in the rooms with laminate floors!)

My little fella will be 1 on the 23rd and still crusing. He's such a cautious little chap that he will only attempt something new when he's sure he won't come a croppa. Defo will be well into next year before he takes the plunge.

bunnyrabbit · 13/12/2004 14:53

Hoorah!!!

On Friday my little bug decided the time was right!! He stood himself up in the middle of his bedroom and took his first few steps. It was just after his bath so both DH and I saw him and we cheered and clapped so much he got really excited and then kept doing it.

I have to admit that I cried... in fact I'm welling up now just thinking about it.... my little boy is growing up!!

CelluliteClaus how about you're DS?

Hulababy · 13/12/2004 14:55

Oh that's lovely bunnyrabbit :)

DD did her first steps at a time when both me and Dh were around to see too - magical isn't it?

fee77 · 20/12/2004 17:14

Congratrulations bunnyrabbit and family! That is great news.

bunnyrabbit · 23/12/2004 13:47

Thank you all... except, he hasn't done a whole lot of walking since.

Just a few steps here and there when he can be bothered.... and then he sits down. He doesn't fall down, he's very steady, he just decides he's had enough!!!

Ah well at least I know he can walk now, and he's just inherited his father's lazy gene!!

I would estimate that by mid January at the latest you will cease to see your ds crawling anywhere. It doesn't take long between first step and never crawling again. Enjoy!

bunnyrabbit · 23/12/2004 14:00

Oh I do hope so.. he's starting to get very heavy to carry around!!!

BR

ItllBeLonelymumThisChristmas · 23/12/2004 14:07

I loved the moment you could put them down say when getting out of the car and they didn't collapse to the ground but stood there like normal human beings. Such a relief from having to always carry them from place to place, never able to put them down for a moment.

bunnyrabbit · 23/12/2004 14:23

Oh yes please!! And have him walk to the supermarket trolley and wait to be put in!

ItllBeLonelymumThisChristmas · 23/12/2004 14:44

Yes, but then it is a short stage before they are climbing out of the supermarket trolley because they want to walk round the shop but when you let them, they run in the opposite direction (can't you tell I am there with ds3 at the moment?)

Gwenick · 23/12/2004 15:38

My DS1 took 3 tiny steps at 11 months (unable to crawl or pull himself up though). Fell over and then cruised furniture until he was 17 1/2months!!! He then walked (not toddled) across the room.

DS2 was crawling at 7 months, found on the 3rd step at 7 1/2 months. Cruising furniture at 8 1/2 months and walking at 10 month...

JennisaurusUnderTheMistletoe · 23/12/2004 20:05

DD was cruising for about 6 weeks before she walked. She was pulling up for a while before that as well.

CelluliteClaus · 23/12/2004 20:15

BR, sorry hadn't seen this thread for a while.

Update in the CC household is that DS has taken a few steps and stands on his own when he doesn't realise he's doing it. When we think he's going to walk he gets back on his knees because it's quicker. I'm getting worried that he'll never walk (or talk for that matter, still talking gobbledegook). However he can operate the video and scroll through the channels until he gets CBeebies .

CelluliteClaus · 23/12/2004 20:30

Talk about heavy to cart around - he's 17mo next week. I weighed him tonight and he is 2 stone 1 pound. No wonder I'm 8 and a half stone again.

bunnyrabbit · 28/12/2004 12:23

Wow CC! Haven't weighed DS. Don't think I want to get on the scales myself so I'll have to ask DH to do it.

He's still taking a couple of steps every now and again and stands for ages by himself. It's almost as if he only wants to walk when no one is watching.

IBLMTC
He tried to get out the damn trolley now!!! I think he thinks I'm gonna let him crawl around tescos!
