And he is still congested and I have the thing where you get their boogers out and the saline nasal spray but he still sounds so congested especially when drinking milk , it's fine ish after I spray his nose and get the snot out but I wanted to know an I overthinking cos the midwife said it' should clear up on its own but it's been weeks now??

I have a 3 week old and he defo makes like a gagging reaction occasionally after he's spit up after feeding. Like there a bit of sick at the back of his throat that makes him gag. Is it something similar to that? If your unsure call triage or you health visitor, just explain ur a bit concerned?

Congratulations on your newborn! It can be nerve-wracking when we observe unusual behaviour in our little ones, and it's completely normal to seek advice or reassurances.

Firstly, about the "gasping" behaviour, newborns have irregular breathing patterns which can sometimes appear as if they are gasping. However, if it's frequent or if your baby seems distressed or their color changes, it's recommended to consult with a healthcare provider immediately.

As for the congestion, it's quite common in newborns. Their nasal passages are very small, and even a tiny amount of mucus can cause a stuffy nose. It's good that you're using saline drops and a nasal aspirator; these can help clear up the congestion. Make sure to keep your baby's head elevated (but always supervised) to aid the mucus drainage.

Remember, while your midwife is right that most minor newborn issues clear up on their own, you know your baby best. If something doesn't feel right, or the symptoms persist, it's always better to get it checked by a pediatrician.

But, most importantly, trust yourself. You're doing a great job, and your concerns show just how much you care for your little one. Keep it up!
