toy moses basket, - good idea or will it make ds see the real basket as a toy?

ds loves his buggy and baby and we think it will help when dc2 arrives in May. ELC do a little cheap moses basket that I thought might be good so that when I'm settling baby he can put his baby to bed. But then I wondered if it might encourage him to view the baby's moses basket as a toy iyswim. Am I just overanalysing and he'll be fine when baby comes anyway (he'll be 2 btw)

You have a good point, but probably worrying too much - it could be quite educational for helping him understand.

Is there anything else that would help, perhaps something additional for the buggy (?).

Do you think (and I think it's a lovely idea, btw) you could go down the route of 'And when our real baby arrives, we'll have to be sooooo gentle with her'?

I know what you mean though - when dd2 arrived (dd1 was 14 months) I would have stopped nothing short of the SAS to protect her from dd1

Does your ds come into contact with any other babies? Mine did, and I think that helped enormously.

yes he sees my friend's new born once a week and so far is really quiet and gentle around him. He finds the baby fascinating though and spends ages peering into the moses basket and saying "baby" over and over. I think I've been reading too much about the older sibling feeling rejected etc and want to make him feel included.

Why not just use a cardboard box with a blanket in it. Different enough from the moses basket, costs nothing and DS can still 'play babies' alongside you. thats what we did anyway and DS1 (3years) loved it
Congratulations by the way

what a brilliant idea, that will save me a tenner to spend on something else. Will get nanny knitting a dolly blanket I think.
thanks for the congrats
