10.5 month old has slightly flat head on one side

Hi there, I'm slightly concerned as my 10.5 month olds head isn't even/symmetrical and is basically flatter on one side that she tends to sleep on. Should I be worried or doing anything? She doesn't have much hair yet so it's quite noticeable. Thanks

My DS had Torticollis and a subsequent flat patch when he was about 2 months old. The advice at that time was to encourage him to look in the other direction as much as possible to stretch his neck muscles out and also to turn his head when sleeping to lessen the flat patch. At that age he was sleeping in our room so it was easy to check on him through the night to turn his head.
After about 3 weeks of doing this the Torticollis went and his head 'rounded' out as it grew and he wasn't applying constant pressure in the same spot.

I'm not sure how easy it would be to apply those techniques to an older baby but thought I'd share. We took him to the gp aswell but had already researched loads of stuff ourselves so the gp said give the at home exercises a try and if it hadn't worked in a month they'd refer us for physio.

The other tip is to change the orientation of the crib because babies tend to sleep facing into a room.

She had, or still has, torticollis. It is important that this is resolved, because unresolved torticollis can lead to facial scoliosis and atlanto-occiptal subluxation.
