How do you make DC brush their teeth PROPERLY?

That really: if I'm not "on it", DS 9 & DD 12 both forget, or eat toothpaste, brush for 30s or so, or let the brush drift around their mouth - unless I literally stand their stopping counting to 120 every time they stop brushing well.

Are there any tricks or gizmos to make this better. Or is it simply down to better parenting?

(PS to all those parents who are moved to help me by telling me they avoided this problem by instilling good practice into their children in pre-school, I hear you and thank you!! Smile )

Your kids are probably too old for this (maybe not the 9yo,as I just had a look and it's aimed for age 5-10) but we use a toothbrush and an app called Colgate Magik, where you have to use the camera on your phone and it tracks the movement of the toothbrush. You get points for brushing then you can buy funny masks and stuff with the points.
Yours might not find that fun as they're older but maybe there's something similar that makes it a bit more 'worthwhile' for them?
Or just show them a picture of some rotten teeth 😅

@baconisgoodforme thank you. It's def worth a try with both of them. 12yo vacillates between childish and more teenager. Also, competition between them always a motivating factor!
