What do you feed your 1 year old?

Hiya, I'm having a hard time finding things for my 1 year old to eat. All of our adult meals seem to have so much salt for her to share but I'd really like her to eat something that resembled an actual meal, rather than bits of veg and bread or potato. She's allergic to dairy.

Do you mind salt and sugar in your 1 year olds food?

I watch the sugar and salt at 1 year, but less than at under 1. What sort of meals do you like to eat? For example, if we have stir fry or egg fried rice, DD2 (actually not quite 1 yet) would have hers with sesame oil and chile, but I'd take hers out before adding the soy sauce. DD1 (3 years old) would have the soy sauce. Pasta, I'd make tomato or cheese sauce at home (our preference for taste, but it does help with salt/sugar), but I wouldn't worry about the salt in pesto, given how much of it is actually in a baby portion. Similarly, if I make curry, DD2 isn't going to have much sauce, so I wouldn't worry about the salt content. Things like cottage pie, fish pie, homemade soup, mash, etc., I'd make with a little salt or low sodium stock, and adults can add more at the table if they like.

Ok so I'm allergic to dairy too and there are some things below that I like:

Spag Bol

Roast dinners. Just don't add butter or milk to anything

Salmon Nuggets, Chips and peas/carrots

Beef & Mushroom Pie. Just use vitalite instead of butter and check the pastry for dairy.

Slow Cooker Chicken Satay which can be served with rice or noodles.

This guide from the Caroline Walker Trust might be useful too as it has some sample menus Wink

There's a lady on Instagram called whatmummymakes who does some lovely things for kids and has several cook books - perhaps have a look there.

And no I never have minded some salt and sugar. I didn't give them pop or crisps and would try to use LO salt versions of things like stock cubes but even BM has some salt and sugar. I can't see how you would avoid them completely Wink

My one year old days anything, I don't add salt whencooking and use low salt stock cubes if using them but I tend not to use them.

Spag bol
Curry
Stir fry
Fish and chips
Pizza
Chilli.. mild
Cottage pie
Macaroni cheese
Roast
Sausage and mash
All meals have plenty of veg or salad bits with it

The only thing I really down is the amount of spice
