2 year old behaviour change since new baby, any advice?

Hi 👋

I'm looking for any advice as I am sure many other mums have been through this as well.

I have a 2 year old son and a 3 week old baby. Ever since the new baby arrived my son's behaviour has changed.

I completely expected this as it is a really big adjustment for him. My main concern is his behaviour towards myself in particular. He very much favours his father's attention at the moment (also totally expected) but he has started to hit and scratch me if I need to do anything with him that he doesn't want to do (e.g. nappy, get dressed etc.)

Does anyone have an advice on things I can do to make him feel better with the change in circumstance??

It breaks my heart that this has affected him. I do know this is likely just an adjustment and will get better in time but would appreciate any tips on things I can do, thank you 😊

Im currently pregnant with our 2nd and worry about how a new baby will affect our 2 year old son. So following for advice and reassurance

If I remember he should settle down soon and then maybe gave another little regression when baby starts moving and touching their things.

I know that you are probably doing this already but try and give him cuddles, read stories, play games with him whilst your DH sorts the baby out.

I started to reply the other day and then of course got distracted with the kids 😂

@MissNat13 to ease your mind, things are already starting to get better. I wish people would have warned me beforehand that it would be tough so I could mentally prepare so hopefully this helps in some way. When it gets tough with your 2yo just know it will start to pass and each day will feel a little better 👍

Prepare to also become second favourite to your partner (if you are in that situation). My son was pretty much refusing me when my husband is around but that is also getting better and is never that bad when husband isn't here.

I am involving my son with baby things e.g. getting the wipes for me during nappy change, coming with me to see if baby is ok when she starts crying. Also having to put housework to one side and when the baby is sleeping and just spending time with my son.

Also, what seems to really help over the last week is when visitors are coming by they make a huge fuss of my 2yo and he loves it!
