Where is my other daddy? (Dh and I hare happily married)
maybe you will get a willy mummy.
maybe they will take mine away.
can we fly to the moon in the car?

I am finding this absolutley fascinating. Can anyone suggest a book for me that would discuss/explain such questions - I dont know if it is cognitive development/language development, neither or both!

my ds also asks for his "father" and when i point to daddy, he says NO NOT HIM!!!

LadyVictorianSqualor · 01/02/2008 18:39

HAHAHA, Great questions.

WRT other daddy does he know anyone at nursery with two daddies?

I'd just answer everything he asks you in as much truth as possible.

maybe you will get a willy mummy.

No sweetheart, only boys and men have willies, mummys are girls so we have vaginas.

maybe they will take mine away.

no darling you'll always have it because you're a boy.

can we fly to the moon in the car?

Cars dont fly to get to the moon you have to go in a rocket.

etc, DS is just 3 and asks all sorts of weird and wonderful questions, as did DD at this age I felt answering them as honesty as possible made for a good start in communication, DD is seven now and we have discussed everything she can possibly come up with, she knwos about babies and periods etc (in a simple format) and I hope it means we wont have a problem talking when she is older as its something we'll be used to iyswim.

I also think that answering questions helps feed their thirst for knowledge which is something to be celebrated.

I agree. I dont mind answering his qustions, but I would love to do some reading around the mysterious minds of a 2 yr old!

LadyOfTheCauliFlowers · 01/02/2008 20:20

The only question my 2 year old asks is 'what that noise?'
Wish he would ask some funny ones like those.

divamummy2 · 01/02/2008 20:26

last year this time we had one day snow, next day dd said "mummy we go and find snow"
dh said it will be long drive to north darling, she said "come on mummy" and put her coat and wellies on
it took as while to explain snow is gone.
she was 22m.
i think its lovely when they are like that.

sleepdeprivationandme · 03/02/2008 11:36

Thanks Kathy - I've just ordered a copy.

We did tell him that we would try and fly to the moon in the car if he liked. Which he did. I suppose its the line between being honest with them and encouraging imagination/fun. I dont know which we should do, but I love our little chats.

Dd 22months, in the bath, looking around the round with big eyes, says "Don't worry mummy, we'll find those animals, hiding." For some reason, she can always see animals, that are of course, hiding, and out of her bedroom window, she can see an owl, that is also hiding. She says it 'scare me, mummy. Owl. in dark. Hiding. See it, mummy?'
EeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeK! May have to a priest to exorcise the spirit of the scary owl, hiding, in the dark! What goes on in her head??!!!
