Safeguarding?

My daughter who is a nursery nurse was out with her sister and cousins and their children at the weekend and her 4 year old daughter began misbehaving, lush and shoving her and there was a gentleman behind her with a hot drink. As my daughter was concerned that my granddaughter would cause an accident she tapped her bottom and told her off.

She was called into her Managers office this morning and told that a parent had rang the nursery this morning complaining that she had seen what my daughter did. She has now been reprimanded and told that it is being put on her record as a safeguarding issue.

To say I am 🤯🤬🤯🤬 is an understatement. I actually think this is outrageous. Would it have been preferable to let my granddaughter cause an accident and for someone to be scalded?

What are your thoughts on this. Is it me?

Yes, it's you.

I think you can remove a child from a potentially risky situation without smacking them.

I'm not surprised she has been called in to the manager and reprimanded.

I don’t believe children should be smacked and as someone who works in education yes it is a safeguarding issue if she has smacked her child

If I were to see one of the people who look after my DC at nursery, smacking their own DC, I would be concerned. If that's what someone thinks is ok to do to their own child in public, what do they think is ok to do to other people's children when people aren't able to see?

There are always alternatives to smacking. And if the situation was truly risky, there was always the option of leaving the area.

I think the parent did the responsible thing by alerting the nursery. This at least gives your daughter an opportunity to reflect and learn from what happened.
