Ds2 (and god knows I don't often post about the poor boy) is 21 months old, and over the past 2 weeks has been getting louder and LOUDER. Now he is lying in his cot talking to himself ("Nat nat nat! Mmmmmmm nyum nyum! Nanarrrr!") so I wondered if this is the start of a 'speech explosion'? Ds1 never made a sound at this age but he didn't develop typically.

he's practising

Oh he sounds yummy - go and chat back!

colditz · 29/01/2008 19:53

I can't and the poor thing needs to be quiet, his brother is in bed next to him!

oh that's funny

his brother will soon get used to it and ignore him, my ds4 did the same thing at 2.4months, (he was a late talker!) and he hasn't stopped since! he still sings himself to sleep everynite, usually repeating rupert bear over and over and over again!

Don't know oif this is of any help, but my ds is 18 mths and gibbers like crazy in his cot. He talks himself to sleep. Really cute to listen to especially when he does "cupatea mummy, cuppatea daddy".

yes - normal

Psychomum5 · 29/01/2008 20:39

normal, and wonderful.

DD1 and DS2 did this lots, and talked really well, really early, but they now never shut up tho, so it does eventually back-fire....and they even talk IN THEIR SLEEP!!!!

DS2 (5) sings in his sleep as well, which is quite freaky in the middle of the night whan he starts singing 'oh bethlehem, oh bethlemhem' (especially in january)

He showed me his toes this evening. He bent over solemnly, pointed to them and announced "Doedoes!"

My 18 month old is also getting louder and louder. He seems to delight in pushing his vocal cords to the absolute limit. Not in his cot though, in fact he barely makes a sound in there apart from whinging to get up. And mine says "nyum nyum" for yum yum as well - so cute!
