nearly 7 months not interested in toys

Would you worry if your baby was nearly 7 months and not that interested in toys?

I saw a friend at a playgroup this morning. Her DD is a wk older than mine and nearly 7 months. She said that her DD wasn't really interested in toys and asked whether I thought there was anything wrong with her. I said no - I've seen her at least once a week for the last few months and never thought there was anything odd or wrong. I watched her afterwards and am now a bit worried that I might have been too reassuring. There were quite a few 6-7 monthers there and they were all sitting and generally banging toys on the ground, sticking them in their mouths and waving them in the air. Her DD lay next to her mum and just watched. If she was shown a toy she'd watch it for a few moments but not grab out for it or look once it had gone. If it was put in her hand she'd hold if for a few moments but not do anything with it. My DD would be like that sometimes esp if tired but thinking about it this little girl is like that whenever I see her and her mum says that's her normal way. The mum does lots with the baby and has toys at home.

Would you worry if it were your DD? I hope it doesn't sound too interfering or as if I'm trying to make out that my DD is advanced - I'm not , all the other babies there were pretty similar to my DD (although her block banging was clearly Einstein-like!). I'm just a bit worried that I might have reassured her wrongly and put her off asking someone who knows what they are talking about.

I would worry if my baby wasn't interested in anything, but if a baby watches people and is alert it wouldn't concern me much. My two children have been completely different in this respect - dd was always a people-watcher while ds has always been fascinated by things.

Thanks Kathy, yes I think she does watch people and is pretty alert. As I say it'd never occurred to me to think she was in any way behind before so I'm probably worrying about nothing. She doesn't roll yet or sit fully (but is getting there) and DD does but I think that's well within the spectrum of normality.
