If you describe a child as a "pickle" what does it mean?

When ds was at his last nursery school his teacher described him as as a "pickle". She said that he was highly intelligent [proud emoticon] but also highly energetic. Ds has recently started at the state nursery attached to the primary school and his teacher also described him as being a right little "pickle". Is this a kind way of saying that he is a little sod?

cheeky, mischievous but in good cute way!

as in little monkey

Califrau - snap with my ds1! He's also a toerag, a wotsit, a tinker, a monkey and a so-and-so! But utterly adorable.

He terified his teachers in his first few weeks of school when he kept running out the classroom and hiding from them I think then he might have been a little sod but now he has settled in hes back to being just a pickle!

Another description of dd2 I was always a little about was " she's a real little character"

DS1 was also a pickle - the mother of one of his sisters' friends referred to him, aged about 5, as a "coughdrop"

(Was never quite sure about that either )

everyone has a "pickle"
it means imo interesting and unpredictable
my fave kind of children

I feel a little better now . Smartiejake - we also get the "little character" comments too! I suppose I just need to accept that ds is never going to be one of those children that are impeccibly [sp?] behaved, he is the total opposite in character to me - but thats no bad thing..

My ds (2.2) is a pickle. To me it means cheeky, cute and funny

MaryAnnSingleton · 27/01/2008 09:08

oh pickle is a lovely word - I use it all the time to describe all kinds of things, nothing serious or bad. I think it means a lively, mischevious but not in a nasty way child - someone with a bit of sparkle and character !

We called DS a pickle and sometimes still do

it is deffo a cute term rather than naughty

If someone gets into a pickle to us it means like a "spot of bother" like taking a left turn instead of a right when driving

"Oh no he was in a pickle"
