I have a friend who's daughter is 4 and has been toilet trained for about 18months. However in the last 2 weeks she has done a wee on her toys 3 times. My friend said it is not just an accident but she thinks it is premeditated - once in the box full of soft toys.
Does anyone have any advice?

All I can think of is she is trying to tell her mum something.

Don't take this the wrong way, but there are significant similarities between very young children and dogs.

When a dog starts doing this, it is a cry for attention ... a face-off, as it were. A 'what are you going to do that this?' situation.

So, has anything changed significantly in this little girl's life lately?

no nothing has changed at all. She is the youngest and has 2 brothers. No new babies or anything-quite a strange one

Maybe there is something your friend is not telling you?

doesmybumlookbiginthis · 26/01/2008 19:52

Could be but don't think so. She is happy and so are all the children. i would know - we used to be flat-mates so can read her really well. I had never heard of it before though

Is she starting school this year? Perhaps the talk of school has caused feelings of deep insecurity?

Desiderata · 26/01/2008 19:55

I don't think I've heard of it either, but that's not to say it doesn't happy frequently.

Tbh, I can really imagine my son doing this. He hasn't, but I wouldn't put it past him at all.

doesmybumlookbiginthis · 26/01/2008 19:56

She is starting school in August but I don't know if she knows - might be an idea though

Has she asked her why she did it?

My DS1 took to weeing in the bin right by the loo. Never understood why (his explanation was 'for fun' ). But he stopped when I asked him to.

testing boundaries??? perhaps??? 4 is an age when they do that ALOT (as I know to my cost )

Attention seeking I think - I have strangely clear memories of being a Child - everyone tells me I am like an Elephant (never forgets)

One thing I remember doing is weeing on the hand towel in the bathroom, I did it for a week before my Mum resorted to bribing me I was a similar age.

I think it is that feeling of being a bit naughty - I was actually a good child in general, just every now and then I would do something wierd if I needed a bit more attention.
