lego, painting, baking, that kind of thing. He likes to make stuff usually.

NAB3wishesfor2008 · 26/01/2008 17:26

Duplo
Making things out of coardboard
Making dens out of my kitchen chairs, lap tray and clean washing.

my seven year old ds is football crazy, if he isn't watching it, he is out in the garden playing it or adjusting his league table or sticking his swapsies on his wall, its just the way he is i suppose, he doesn't really do much else, apart from play football on his dads playstation

AllieBongo · 26/01/2008 17:28

lego, bits of wood in the garden, drawing, reading and ps2 when he's allowed

dippydeedoo · 26/01/2008 17:33

matts is 7 hes home schooled(not that it makes any difference he has 2 older bros who are at school)he plays for ages with his dr who stuff and a hoard of empty boxes....he plays with his building bricks and lego,,,,playmobil he loves and his playdough....wrestling figures altho he spends a fair bit of time on the ps2(he can thrash his brothers lol) and the computer and his gameboy....he also has a till and plays shop for ages...he does puzzles and colouring in,reads his books, outside he likes to bike ide and play football.......i think once they get really into the ps2 its instant fun and no imagination needed bcos matts is home schooled hes not had the inluences school gives and still enjoys stuff my other sons grew out of ....in the summer he and his brothers play for hours in our (secluded..fortunately) back garden....in the sand pit !!!! i think one of the best things we had was a huge tv box that lasted all summer holidays

Mine is another football mad one. He got a DS for Christmas which he is only allowed to play on at weekends. He got Mario with it, but bought Fifa with his Christmas money, and only plays Fifa. When his friend comes round they play lego starwars on the PS2 together. Otherwise he reads books (quite a bookworm) or reads/does the activities in his football annuals (got 4 for Christmas). Sometimes he will do writing/drawing (with a football theme) and also spends quite a bit of time kicking a ball around the garden - he has a goal out there. Only other thing he really does is play games - guess who, ker plunk, junior monopoly, connect 4, junior scrabble etc.

Actually he is not 7 until Feb and family members are asking me what he wants and I am really struggling. I am hoping he will re-discover his lego.

lego (much like DH), k'nex, the Wii, usual stuff.

Wella ctually he's now 8, but only just and ds2 turns 7 Thursday so close enough! DS2 likes the same things, but also books- esp. flanimals ones atm- and anything to do with fish. We've just ordered hi9m some stick insect eggs too, he's into all natural world type stuff.

They both like drawinga s well- frankly a large pack of Asda A4 paper and they're away

3monkeys · 26/01/2008 17:38

DS1 is 8 - we have same problem with being bored. Loves football - outside, inside (!) PS2 and nintendo DS. Has been to Anfield this afternoon to occupy him! Will read books at bedtime. Won't do anything creative or imaginative

Bink · 26/01/2008 17:38

Does he read?
Mine read a lot at that age - Tintin, Horrible Histories, Guinness Book of Records.
Tons of lego, marble-run making, K'Nex. Drawing mazes and machines. Endless pretend games with his sister.

He's only recently (he'll be 9 in April) been allowed much computer games & it's noticeable how that's taken over & made the more hands-on toys less appealing. So I restrict it, deliberately so that he doesn't end up losing all interest in anything but computer games.

Is it possible yours might rediscover his other interests if his playstation went away for a while?

dippydeedoo · 26/01/2008 17:50

bink ....our computer died on us!! and in between getting a new one the older children rediscovered the lego and the action men and some long forgotten moddeling stuff and micro machines so i think yes but it would be upsetting for him.

shatteredmumsrus · 26/01/2008 22:51

thankyou all i will try and encourage evrything else i think 7 is a hard age

anything playmobile, action figures, lego.

TurkeyLurkey · 26/01/2008 23:02

Mine is 7 in Feb, I can see this boredom you describe just starting to creep in as he is now less inclined to play with his younger sister (5) (don't know if its cos its the winter and not able to play in the garden as much - or if he is getting bored with their made-up games).

However, he likes the obvious computer game stuff, plus things like making paper aeroplanes and things out of paper (some good websites for this here!, lego, bionicles, k'nex, making dens with chairs and duvets, making models out of clay and painting them. He'll also play board games and things like Jenga. Hama beads he'll do to to a certain extent.

TurkeyLurkey · 26/01/2008 23:09

here for paper folding if thats any help, makes an alternative to aeroplanes!

nooka · 26/01/2008 23:12

My ds is 8, but I find that both he and dd (7) will play lots of creative games when they have to. I have to forbid the machines and get through the "there's nothing to do" and "I'm bored" and then "you won't let me do anything" and then they disappear off and play for hours either together or apart. ds likes his playmobil, but to be honest he is quite happy playing games with bits and bobs that can be turned into a battle of some sort.
