Teaching resilience

How do you think you teach resilience in your children? I really want to ensure that my daughter develops this but I'm not really sure what I should be doing. She, and we, are very fortunate in that she hasn't had to deal with much adversity at a young age so far, so apart from her normal school and friendship woes there doesn't seem to be much opportunity. When I look back at my own childhood I pretty much had no option but to be resilient or I would have been crushed. I think we do try to shield our kids from a lot which I'm trying to become more aware of but right now I feel like resilience is probably the best gift I could give her.

How old is she? I guess you can start small, modelling resilience when you lose a game?

It's not a huge thing, but my kids do junior parkrun every week.. it teaches them that they don't always win (they never win!), to keep going even when it's difficult (and that they can), that if they persevere with things they will get improve.

I'd recommend the book : the Danish way of parenting by Jessica Joelle. It covers alot of this and simple ways to help. For example: instead of wow, I love your picture! Try what an amazing effort you made, I can see how much time you spent!
I'd say getting them into a club where they don't always win and have to deal with other children who might be better than them at the club.
