Early rolling

My 6 week old rolled over from his front to back yesterday. He has done it 4 times now when I place him on his front for tummy time. I googled the age they usually do this because I thought it seemed very early (found out it's usually about 3 or 4 months before they do it) and I was a bit worried to see a lot of posts saying early rolling can be an early indicator for cerebral palsy.

But then I saw some other posts that say it can be accidental rolling rather than him actually doing it because newborns heads are heavier so gravity tips them over. He is very small for his age as he was 4 weeks early and weighed less than 5lbs at birth and now just over 6lbs.

Not really sure what I'm looking for with this post but has anyone else had any early rollers?

Hi, it could be that it's a centre of gravity thing like you said - his head's going to be the heaviest part of him and he won't have the coordination yet to counterbalance.

My DC was a little early with rolling (a few weeks later than your DC but still early) and I remember feeling so worried about it, especially as they seemed determined to flip onto their front at night! My DC was (and still is) small for their age and I wonder if that's been a factor. They're now almost 8 months old and within normal ranges for motor development so far!

If you're worried, maybe give your health visitor or GP a ring for advice?

Thanks for replying, yeah I'm thinking it's probably more a gravity thing but I will mention it to health visitor next time.
