14mo not talking?

She babbles constantly.

Will sometimes say 'ma' or 'baba' or 'mama' if I prompt her 'say mama,' but is just copying me, and mostly ignores me.

Will make a mooing noise when we read one particular book ('a cow says...'), and a kiss noise when we read another book.

She will shake her head no if she doesn't want to eat something.

Most of her baby friends are saying a handful of words by now. She also doesn't respond when I say things like 'come here' or 'don't throw.' Her hearing is fine, she responds to music and her name. Is this normal or late development?

Hi, I’ve posted about my little boy before. He wasn’t saying anything at 14 months except Dada ( unlike his older brothers who both had lots of words at that stage). I brought him for a speech & language evaluation a couple of months ago and she said he was showing positive signs that he will talk. He started pointing and gesturing and attempting words from around 16 months. He is now almost 22 months and has around 30 words. Whilst he is on the lower end he is still within the normal range if that makes sense.

@Jacky86 thanks so much. Did you do anything in particular to help him start talking? Also did you go to your GP for a referral for the evaluation and at what age?

She has a childminder who is pregnant and the childminder said today 'At this rate my baby will start talking before her' and it honestly stressed me out.

I brought him to the gp at 18 months as I spent months doing lots things I had read about to bring on his speech and he still only had about 5 words . The gp referred him but said the wait list is around a year in our area so I panicked and put his name on a private list and he got seen to straight away. It was very expensive but it did put my mind at ease. They said his use of gestures and sounds were all really positive. I am still worried about him as I can’t help but compare him to his older brothers at that age and his peers but he is slowly progressing.
