Worried my 18 month old has autism

Thought it’d be easier to say what he can/can’t do. So to begin with he is a very happy, smiley boy who’s always laughing. He looks as if he loves life😍

What he can’t do yet: talk (not even one word) sometimes he goes “mamam” which I thought was mama but he only seems to say it when there’s food around and he wants some😂 he also says bababa now and then.
He doesn’t point to things.
He doesn’t copy what I do
If I tell him to bring me something he doesn’t

What he does do: he has good eye contact
He plays with his toys
If he wants the tv on or a different channel he will bring the remote to me
If he wants a drink or to go in the kitchen he will drag me up and lead me to it
If he’s playing with a toy he will bring it over to me to show me
If he tries to do something and he achieves it he will clap and look over to me to see if I’m clapping and if I’m not he will grab my hands and clap them together
He will wave hello and goodbye although sometimes I tell him to
If he’s doing something naughty and I tell him no, he stops what he’s doing.
If I say “come here” or “do you want some” (food) he will come to me

Off the top of my head these are the things I can think of. He has an appointment next week to have his ears checked because a lot of the time he will put his hand over his ear and bring his shoulder up to it. He does this randomly, not in noisy places so I’m wondering if his ears are bothering him in some way which might be affecting his ability to speak.

I have a 6 year old too and I’ve been looking back at photos/videos of him when he was this age and he was very more advanced.

Sorry for the long post but I struggle really bad with anxiety and my mind is in overdrive right now😞

I’d see what the hearing test shows, to give you a better idea of what is going on. But also if you do have these concerns then speak to your gp and/or health visitor to get on any waiting lists like Speech and paediatrician as they can take years.
Things will probably become clearer to you over the next year or so. It sounds like he has some lovely shared attention skills and doing well in other areas too.

Hi, no it doesn't sound like autism he's only 18 months and each and every child develops different.
