DS2 has developed a seemingly nervous twitch, he keeps flicking his head as if his hair is in his eyes.

He is 6, he has been doing it for a couple of weeks. DH commented and said did he need his fringe trimmed but it is not long enough to get in his eyes. He definately does it more when feeling self concious. Last night my old flat mate was here, DS2 knows him very well and really likes him, DS was telling my friend jokes and we were all listening but as he spoke he tossed his head constantly and it seemed uncontrollably. It quite upset me really.

Spoke to his teacher this morning and asked if a) she'd noticed it and b) was he ok at school. She said he'd actually been misbehaving a bit recently which is very unlike him and that she had had to tell him off a couple of times. Nothing serious just being silly during carpet time and chatting/giggling when meant to be working.

What should I do about the twitch? I haven't mentioned it to him, just asked if his hair was bothering him but he said it wasn't.

Not sure if this will help but we had an issue with my DS2 who is 6 and blinking recently. I did post on here. He just kept on blinking all the time and like you I was quite upset. Anyway someone said wait 2 months and if still happening then go to Docs as it seems that these twitchy periods should only last for a couple of months. The day before the 2 months were up he stopped and now he is ok.
I'm sure it's just a phase. We did not say anything about his blinking and just ignored it, this seemed to help. The behavioural issue may just be a a coinsidence (sp?) but may be worth seeing if he himself has worries at school.
Good luck.XX

Thanks Flowertop - I think that's the best approach, don't make a big deal of it and see if it passes in a few weeks. I think I'll have a chat with him about his behaviour though. He is in a very 'lively' class, lots of strong characters some good some bad, but until now he's just sort of quietly observed.

How funny, DH pointed out at the weekend that our 6 year old DS had a sort of blinking "thing" going on. We are just keeping it under observation at the moment (he had a very bad fall/cut to the head about 6 weeks ago and I wondered whether the scar immediately above his eyebrow might be tickling a bit).

Flowertop - can you link to your thread?

We don't have any behavioual issues involved: his class is relatively straightforward and his position in it pretty stable, as far as I can tell.
