Remember to take your sachets of calpol/ibuprofen. I forgot to pack them when we went to Spain between xmas and New Year and DS1 decided to have a major temperature on a Sunday. You can only get drugs in pharmacies and we had to drive 40miles to the nearest chemist. Take a little dictionary to help you along.

Enjoy it?

No I'm being serious, its easy to fret but there is nothing you can't get in Spain that you get in England, just enjoy it

Pampers nappies are called dodots here and huggies are huggies. You can by hipp organic baby food in some shops here, if using jars check labels as most have sugar and salt added.

My biggest area of advice would be the heat. It really is better to do as the Spanish do, stay in or at least well covered in the middle of the day and make use of the warm summer evenings. Make sure your child drinks a lot too.

I live in Spain, so if you have any questions please feel free to ask. Where are you going?

lucy5 · 22/01/2008 21:38

The other tip is take talc with you, it's great for getting sand off without scratching.

SenoraParsnip · 22/01/2008 21:40

really 40 miles?

my tip would be, buy some dalsy in a chemists. it's like baby neurofen, but much cheaper and comes with a v handy dosing syringe.

there are things you can't get in spain though.

you can't buy small packs of nappies for one thing - they come in packs of about 80. so take nappies with you if you don't want to bring more back.

also you can't buy decent dried ginger or dried coriander, but you probably won't need those.

where are you going?

and don't forget the suncream, I've been on countless holidays where the parents and the kids have forgotten to use it and spent the rest of the hols in agony, hospital, with heatstroke etc, like Lucy5 says, do as the locals do and make sure you use suncream too and sorry if I'm preaching to the converted.

sz - stop worrying! One year, many moons ago, we took our 2 DS. One was 11 months and the other 2 and a half. We took a massive medicine box - filled to the brim with more stuff than Boots could hold. We went to Alcudia in Majorca - beautiful part of the world. The children were just fine! We worried, panicked, fretted about the holiday and they just sailed through it. Enjoy the change of scenery and the laid back approach. Have lovely grub, lovely drinks, dance, laugh and have the best time. Good luck, xxx

i bet you are excited. when do you go? We have got hooked on Falaraki in Rhodes, Greece. Used to have a bad reputation for 18 - 30 holidays. They have all moved on now and we just love the people there. We e mail and text the staff and owners of the hotel. Oh you just wait till i win the lottery - 'oh this year I'm off to sunny Rhodes - e viva Greece' Yes I know I'm mixing two languages but I can cause I am on the menopause!!

spottyzebra · 22/01/2008 23:32

We were in Cala D'or in July, it was hot hot hot. DD was 3 months then.

We bought a cheap maclaren as I didn't want to risk my Quinny in the plane hold. I took my own nappies as I use cloth and biodegradables, but there's big supermarkets in Cala D'or and a hypermarket a few miles out if your hiring a car.

I've just got back from Barcelona, DD 10 months now. I took 2 days of food with me and then bought Spannish baby food. It sent my DD wild, it must have had something in it, but I couldn't see sugar on the ingredients.

Have a fabulous time.
