Is 22mths too young for Finding Nemo etc?

My DS was watching this with me last night. It is the first DVD I have bought for him. He doesn't watch hardly any children's TV. I got it for him as he seems to have a strong interest in fish. Anyway the problem is that he was crying quite hard at all the emotional bits (Nemo's Mum and Dad getting attacked etc.) and then he cried really hard when the credits came up at the end.

Do you think he is too young or just too sensitive to watch these kinds of DVD's yet. Instead of Ice Age and Toy Story should I buy Thomas the Tank Engine and Brum etc. Any advice welcomed, TIA.
