My neighbour has a little one that possibly has Autism, this has been mentioned to her by GP not something she settled on.
He is approaching 2 but she is struggling for things to do with him all day, English isn’t her first language and she’s only recently moved here so she’s finding it tricky to navigate what’s best for him.
We found some toddler groups but she said he doesn’t interact at all with other children and she can’t always afford the cost.
They like going to the park so that breaks up the day a little.
any ideas of activities I could suggest or point her in the direction of?
also any ideas for suitable tv (just for when she’s making dinner, I said coco melon isn’t great)

Hi 👋
I’m an autism mum. I have 2 kids. So, you said English isn’t her first language, what’s the little boys language and communication like? She should speak to him in her home language (the language she’s strongest in) because language is applicable and he will naturally pick up English’s at school etc. My two girls are completely different. One likes messy, creative, role play kind of play and the other mess free, puzzles and books. So play is all about his interests. But books, puzzles and and small world toys like train sets, small people and animals are good. They’re interesting and they can be played with in different ways. Even if he doesn’t always interact with other kids it’s still good for her to expose him to other environments and kids when she can. I hope this helps!

Thank you this is great
He’s not said any words at all yet, just makes noises (whether parents speak native language or English) in response, she said sometimes he understands but not always.

Aware I’m very late to this thread OP, has your neighbor been making any progress?

is there a portage service in your area? Your neighbor can self refer before any formal diagnosis is made.

through portage I have become aware of a wide range of activities that are suitable for children with ASD and other needs, many of which are free/heavily subsidized that I didn’t know about before.
