just wanting to share my good news with people who care!! ds 3.1y and dd 1.9y

ds had a dummy from birth till about 12 tmhs, had 7mths without one, but when dd arrived and had one he went back onto one (mainly out of jelousy) they have only ever had them for napsand bedtime, but i've always wanted to get them off it, but decided not to change things as it wasn't a bad habit at their ages to sleep with a dummy. dd was addicted to hers, and as soon as tea was finished she'd be asking for her 'mi-mi' as she call it..... well yesterday mornign i took them off them, didn't give them for nap times, and again didn't give them for bedtime, both kids went to sleep just as well as they normally do, and have been pretty good today too....naptime soon so that will be the next test for me....

but i'm just so proud of them for coming off them so easily!!

All dummies are kidden in the kitchen cupboard, and at the end of the week i will cut teats off and bin all of them if they ahven't been used!!

well done to you and your dc!! I had to bribe mine and got them to swap the dummies with toys at the elc. Worked a treat

well thats my next strategy if erasing their existence doesn't work!! we're going to visit family next weekend though so it'll be a strange room and i'm hoping they cope without them!!.....they didn't even sleep when we went to my parents and that was with a dummy!!

I've just decided to ditch dds dummy, she is 10 months.

I didn't give it to her at nap time this morning and she went to sleep with no more fuss than usual.

I've now hidden them so that dh wont give in and give it to her if she wants it.

Wish me luck

oh i do wish you luck!! my two are old enought to be asking for it....but we've only had a handful of requests for them in nearly 3 days now!! tonight is the 3rd night without them and had no fuss at all at bedtime once again!! think i've cracked it!!

I follow all dummy threads (well a lot of them) with interest. dd2 has just turned 5 months and seems to be gradually "going off" her dummy. I am trying to help her along by only offering at sleep times, but I've noticed that at night particularly when she sees us trying to sleep she lies quietly with her eyes open watching us and this helps her to drift off sometimes. Daytime naps are still trickier but I have taken comfort from Lillypie's story. She's (my dd) is still a bit young imo for me to want to be too firm about the dummy but she is certainly less dependent on it. She used to really whinge for it in the car but has been fine for a couple of weeks now.

Oh i wish i'd got both mine off it so much earlier, but i tried and both used to suck a thimb....i'd rather give them a dummy as you can take that off them eventually, but a thumb you cant!! my sister is 17 and still sucks her fingers!!

and actually today we went out for the day and when ds got tired he started sucking his thumb saying its his new dummy!!!....if i catch him doing it more i'll give him the dummy back in the hope that next time i take it away he'll not feel the need for a 'dummy-replacement'!!
