2 year old not walking - seeking all experiences

DD will turn 2 next week. She can't yet balance/stand by herself and she can't walk.

She has pulled to stand from 10 months, never crawled ('bunny hops' from 12 months), she started cruising down furniture at 18 months, and started pushing her walker around also at 18 months. Her first set of words were at 18 months and she now has about 60 words. She is extremely social, loving, engaging and communicative.

She appears to have hypermobility (which I have), particularly through her lower back and legs. She also appears to have hypertonia, in her legs only. Her upper body is strong.

She is tiny, at 77cm high (which is off the charts for 23 months) and 9.6 kg which is 5th %. She looks perfectly proportionate.

Please if you have any similar experiences with your own babies or children, please share. It would be so helpful to hear stories of whether it turned out to be a strength, temperament, or neurological matter and at what point progression was made to catch up to peers.

Sounds like my DSis. She has ASD & Dyspraxia.

Is your DD getting any support at all?

How and at what age was your DSis diagnosed with these, particularly the dyspraxia diagnosis? At what age did she learn to walk and begin to put put more words together?

I’m not sure about ADS for my girl, as it is routinely commented on that she is the friendliest and most socially engaging girl out when she is with us. Although her childcare have noticed that while she will give all her friends and teachers hugs, she is more inclined to by herself than others. But I feel this could also be a self preservation thing, given she isn’t able to run around with them.

We have been to the neuro dept this week and the initial assessment is dystonia, although if that’s what it is she would appear to have a mild version of it. Diagnosis requires ever increasing intrusive tests from bloods and genetics through to MRI under general anaesthetic.

My DSis was about 2.5 before she started talking properly and I think she was about 2 before she started talking. I understand you thinking that the sociability could be an indicator that she may not have ASD but I think it still might be worth doing the MChat test to see what her risk is.

I'm sorry that the tests seem so intrusive. It must be awful for you seeing her go through them but at least they seem to be checking her out thoroughly and not dismissing your concerns Flowers
