My twins currently attend nursery 3 days a week while im at work. I wanted hear from others whos toddlers where/are non verbal. Both on pathway but we already know a diagnosis of ASD is coming. One is very sociable but doesnt quiet join in as her under standing is delayed the other alot harder to engage in any activity.. in your experience was nursery or childminder better for them and their development? Thanks in advance for any response x

Sorry you haven't had any responses. Have you found the SN Section yet? You might get a few experienced MNers replying in there Flowers

Hi, my daughter’s non verbal (4yrs). I found that a nursery that was non profit was better then a private one. See which one has more experience with SEN children and ask what support is available. Who is the SENCO, will they support you with an EHCP, what experience do they have, can they call in specialist eg SALT

This is good advice. I would also ask about provision for preschoolers. DS was at a private nursery and they didn’t want to move him up to the preschool room as he wasn’t ready, but being autistic and non-verbal meant he couldn’t meet their expectations and they needed to put support in place so he could. I had to move him when they weren’t willing to do this.

I would also get the ball rolling on the EHCP process as soon as possible, if you haven’t already. It makes the transition to school easier and opens up option of choosing special or mainstream school depending on needs.

@Mydogfoundthechainsaw can I ask how your LO is doing now?
There hasn’t been much progress re her development and worried about her level of understanding

@Twinmama4 you can apply for an EHCP yourself as the parent. There are loads of FB support groups and tons of videos on YouTube.

Hi, @Aswad DS is 7 now and doing well. His language/communication has improved so much in the last year, which has made life easier as he gets less frustrated. He was pretty much non-speaking until then, but now we get the occasional 4-5 word sentence!

It can feel like a long road at times, but hang in there, things always seem to change for DS when I least expect it:)
