What's your fear @star-87? If it's choking could you watch a video on what to do if she does choke and maybe try finger foods when you've got another adult around?

I cut toast into strips about 2cm wide and pop them on the highchair tray and let DD help herself. I do the same with slices of bread or snap rice cakes in half. These are spread with butter, hummous, peanut butter, almond butter, Philadelphia, etc.

Other foods are cucumber sticks, carrot sticks that are steamed until they're soft, strips of pepper, slices of tomato, chunky chip sized bits of potato and sweet potato that I slather in coconut oil and bake in the oven, slices of melon, watermelon, apples, etc. I peel whole ripe pears and DD chomps on them. If I'm making mince, I take a little of it and squish it into a chipolata sausage size and cook that...

Try one thing at a time and see how your little one gets on with it. You can always offer a finger of toast alongside purée so that it's not so much of a dramatic change.

What are you afraid of?

Also any help on teething?

I've always found ibruprofen is much better for dental pain than paracetamol.

Have you tried a teething gel like Dentinox too?

Hi OP,

Have a look at Solid Starts on Instagram, they have loads of info about safely serving finger foods and the difference between gagging and choking (gagging is normal and part of them learning how to eat). They have an app too which I find really helpful.

For teething I agree with PP that baby nurofen seems better but I alternate it with calpol. Anbesol liquid rubbed onto their gum with your finger seems to help too. My 8.5mo is teething so badly at the moment so I really sympathise!!

For teething,my little girl loves melon out of the fridge, or we have a fruit feeder - like a dummy that you fill with fruit/puree etc. I put puree or chopped up strawberries or banana in them and freeze them. She seems to really like the cold on her gums, and gets a little fruit in the process as it melts.

These may also be helpful if you're worried about choking, as baby can eat little bits of food through them, but not huge chunks that pose a choking risk
